Breaking the Silence




			Partners in Solidarity Kaqchikel Presbytery women's group and the villages of Bola de Oro, Cerro Alto and Labor de Falla Breaking the Silence's oldest partnership is with Mayan women's groups in the villages of Bola de Oro, Cerro Alto and Labor de Falla, near the city of Chimaltenango, and with their support organization, the Kaqchikel Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Guatemala. The Presbytery does not construct buildings or establish traditional worship services. Instead they create informal worshipping communities and community-based self-help groups. They make no distinctions on the basis of religious affiliation. Those who are willing to work with their neighbours for survival and reconstruction are welcome. >> Additional Information New Hope Foundation The New Hope Foundation, Fundacion Nueva Esperanza, a Mayan-run organization in Rabinal promoting bilingual, bicultural (Achi and Spanish) education. Since 2004, BTS has sent two carpentry teams to help build the Funcacion Nueva Esperanza high school for grandchildren of genocide victims and survivors. Throughout the year, funds are raised across the Maritimes ($10,000 per year) to provide student scholarships. For more information contact Valerie Kilfoil. >> New Hope Foundation Site Comite Campesino del Altiplano CCDA The Highland Small Farmers' Committee, Comite Campesino del Altiplano (CCDA) a Mayan Kaqchikel grassroots organization that struggles for redistribution of land and economic justice. >>Additional Information H.I.J.O.S. HIJOS is a human rights group that was established in 1999. It is made up of young people, many of them students, who were children when their parents were ''disappeared'', killed or massacred and have joined together recently, some of them returning from exile, to try and establish what happened to their parents and who was responsible for it.
